Located in the Piedmont Triad, it is the governmental center of county and biggest city of Yadkin County. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 2.7 square miles (7.0 km2), all of it land.
Yadkinville is known locally for its "Harvest Festival" and "Grape Festival," which honors the Yadkin Valley Vineyards as well as other vineyards around North Carolina and Virginia.
According to the 2000 census, there were 2,818 citizens , 959 homeholds, and 641 families residing in the town.
In the town, the populace was spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 21.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a homehold in the town was $31,250, and the median income for a family was $45,000.
About 10.6% of families and 14.4% of the populace were below the poverty line, including 19.1% of those under age 18 and 13.9% of those age 65 or over.
The region was chosen as the governmental center of county with the beginning of Yadkin County in 1850.
However, the name was changed to Yadkinville in 1852 after it was identified that another area, Wilson, North Carolina, already had the name.
At the time the governmental center of county was established, there was only one home in town. Yadkinville was incorporated in 1857.
The bricks were handmade on a farm north of town.
The Second Yadkin County Jail was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. United States Enumeration Bureau.
