It is the governmental center of county of Polk County. The Tryon International Equestrian Center, close to the close-by improve of Mill Spring will be the locale of the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games. Hughes House, and Polk County Courthouse are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town has a total region of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km2), all of it land.
The ethnic makeup of the town was 90.32% White, 5.95% African American, 0.20% Native American, 3.12% from other competitions, and 0.40% from two or more competitions.
There were 414 homeholds out of which 19.8% had kids under the age of 18 living with them, 44.7% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female homeholder with no husband present, and 42.5% were non-families.
