Archdale is positioned primarily in Randolph County and extends north into Guilford County; the geographic center of the town/city is at 35 54 14 N 79 57 58 W (35.903996, -79.966080). It is bordered to the southwest by the town/city of Trinity and to the north by the town/city of High Point.
Interstate 74 passes just east of Archdale, dominant northwest 26 miles (42 km) to Winston-Salem and southeast 21 miles (34 km) to Asheboro.
According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, Archdale has a total region of 8.2 square miles (21.3 km2), of which 0.02 square miles (0.06 km2), or 0.27%, is water. The town/city is inside the watershed of the Deep River, a tributary of the Cape Fear River.
The ethnic makeup of the town/city was 87.8% White, 4% African American, 0.6% Native American, 4% Asian, 1.4% from other competitions, and 1.4% from two or more competitions.
In the city, the populace was spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older.

Archdale, previously known as "Bush Hill", began as a dominantly Quaker settlement and received the name "Archdale" as a tribute to John Archdale, an early Quaker governor.
